Title of Work

Little Bird

“In the big, beautiful forest there lived a little bird who didn’t feel very beautiful at all…”

This year my main focus has been on writing and illustrating my own children’s picture book, Little Bird. The main character wants to be like the other characters she encounters so much that she ignores her own positive attributes. It is important to me that my characters are accessible to children and that the viewer empathises with them. My usual materials are watercolours and ink but I also experiment with layers both through the manual process of screenprint and by digitally layering cut-out textures.

Although my main interest and aim is to create picture books for children, I enjoy working on a wide range of projects, including natural history and educational illustration, card design, merchandising and book covers. With a fascination for animals, these often feature in my work.
